When you send an SMS text message from Skype, the recipient will see the first 11 characters of your Skype Name. For example, if your Skype Name is thisismyskypename, the recipient will see thisismysky. They won’t be able to reply to your SMS text message.
However, you can change your sender ID so it displays your mobile number instead. This means the recipient can reply to your SMS text message and the reply will go to your mobile phone (not your Skype).
To change the sender ID, you need to verify your mobile number in Skype.
To verify your mobile number in Skype for Windows desktop, go to Tools > Options > IM & SMS > SMS Settings, click the link Verify your mobile phone number and follow the instructions.
To verify your mobile number in Skype for Mac, go to Skype > Preferences > Messaging > Verify Your Number and follow the instructions.
Important: Make sure that you enter your phone number in the correct international format, otherwise you might not receive the verification SMS text message.
After you’ve validated your mobile number, all SMS text messages you send from Skype will display your mobile number as the sender ID.
SMS text messages sent to mobile phones in Canada, China, Taiwan and the USA will not display your Skype Name or a validated mobile number. Instead, these SMS text messages will have generic, pre-defined numbers as the sender ID. For SMS text messages sent to mobile phones in Russia, the Skype Name is not displayed. A generic number is displayed unless you’ve set your mobile number as the sender ID.

Sending SMS text messages to your contact
It’s easy to send an SMS text message to one of your contacts:
1. Sign in to Skype.
2. Under Contacts, click the contact you want to send an SMS text message to.
3. There are two ways to send an SMS text message. You can either right-click the contact, and then select Send SMS Message…
…or, in the conversation box, click via Skype and select SMS.
4. Enter your message in the conversation box, then click the Send button.
When your SMS text message has been delivered, the “SMS: Delivered” status will appear next to your SMS text message.
If the Send SMS Message option is greyed out, this is most likely because your contact hasn’t saved a text-enabled number (usually a mobile number) in their profile.
To add a mobile number to the contact, just click via SMS in the conversation window, then click Add
